✦ Sunday · 4 days past Vesak · Uposatha approaching

Sabbe dhammā nālaṃ abhinivesāya.

Nothing is worth clinging to. Today's sutta, a moment of mindful breath, and a companion grounded in the suttas, the major schools, and the lived dharma.

Today's Sutta · Dhammapada 1:1–2

Mind precedes all things

Manopubbaṅgamā dhammā — "Mind precedes all phenomena, mind is their chief, they are mind-made. If one speaks or acts with an impure mind, suffering follows him as the wheel follows the foot of the ox."

Commentary · from the Visuddhimagga

Buddhaghoṣa on the Dhammapada opening

The mind is the workshop of all karma. Speech and action are the outflow. To purify the stream, attend to the source. This is why śīla, samādhi, and paññā stand together — and why right view comes first in the path.

A Zen koan · Mumonkan, Case 1

Jōshū's Mu

A monk asked Jōshū, "Has a dog Buddha-nature?" Jōshū said, "Mu." Mumon's comment: "To realize Zen, you must pass through the barrier of the patriarchs. The barrier is Jōshū's Mu. If you pass through it, you will see Jōshū face to face..."

☸ Verse of the day · Dhammapada 183

The teaching of all Buddhas

"Sabbapāpassa akaraṇaṃ, kusalassa upasampadā, sacittapariyodapanaṃ — etaṃ buddhāna sāsanaṃ." Not to do any evil, to cultivate the good, to purify one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

✦ What this is not

A study companion. Not a teacher.

GPBuddhist does not transmit dharma, give refuge, ordain, or replace your teacher. It introduces the suttas and the major schools — Theravāda, Mahāyāna, Vajrayāna, Zen — and points to a real teacher when the path requires one. The dharma is practiced, not downloaded.
